so how cool is solange yall? she did a cover of dirty projectors “stillness is the move”, was recently filmed on stage performing with the band, was seen jammin out with sister beyonce (yeah did i just mention beyonce on g.f.o.m.????) and jay z, during a grizzly bear performance, took the stage with susan sarandon and of montreal to perform some songs, and is featured on the new of montreal album as well. so yes…i pose the question how cool is this girl?

the sandwitches are a band that i had heard about a few months back after they started to show up on some year end lists. >g.f.o.m. chum gordy brought the band back to our attention due to some plays on the trusty blog radio shows on sirius . the band sounds like this throw back to the good ole days, they are self described as bassa nova, breakcore and 2 step on the myspace page. i am diggin what i have heard from the band, but have yet to hear the full album. hopefully that will change soon. the band is playing bmore and nyc, but no philly date as of now.
one of the highlights of the phantogram show was opening act deepak mantena aka junk culture. this one man band had my head bobbing for his whole set. the music is very dancy and sample based. his debut album is available (pay what you want basis) on illegal art which by the way is girl talk’s label. west coast by junk culture
wild beasts @ johnny brendas. it would be ashame if you miss this one!
some quick thoughts on last night’s phantogram show at kung fu kneck.
1. impressed with the show. heard good things from a relatively new band
2. music could have been louder
3. seemed like alot of the sounds were pre-recorded (lots of sound coming from 2 band members)
4. girl in the band = hot
5. band should hire a drummer for live shows…that would have been sick
6. i think we will be hearing alot more about this band in the future
7. my pictures are horrible
8. opening act “junk culture” rocked…more on them soon!
i am going to miss the big making time with neon indian and memory tapes. which is a bummer, after seeing this video.
