ga ga ga ga ga

04/22/07 spoon @ starlight ballroom, philadelphia

i was browsing through flickr the other day when i came across some great pictures of the spoon show in philadelphia. turns out the person that took them laura nunzi, a pretty cool girl, is letting us use her pictures. hopefully she can snap a few more for us in the future.

i apologize for the lack of updates lately. glynner is back in the working world, pruning flowers (way to go master’s degree). but enough of that boring stuff.

on sunday night, we had the opportunity to see spoon for the second time. our first time being last summer at the pitchfork music festival. this time, spoon invaded a solidly packed starlight light ballroom on a broken glass infested street in northern liberties. the show had an energy that was sorely missing from spoon’s set last summer. from the beginning it seemed that the crowd and the band were in rare form. brit continually told the crowd that ‘we were the shit’ and explained that they needed to come to philadelphia more often. the sold out crowd responded by showing the boys a ton of love throughout the set.

set list:

new.
someone something.
stay don’t go.
fitted shirt.
the delicate place.
new.
the beast and dragon, adored.
new?
turn my camera on.
jonathon fisk.
paper tiger.
new.
everything hits at once.
they never got you.
i summon you.
back to the life.
my mathematical mind.
>
encore:
new.
me and the bean.
the two sides of monsieur valentine.
mountain to Sound

as you can see from the setlist, the show was a bit ‘new song’ and ‘gimmie fiction’ oriented but it did include some older tunes. highlights for me included ‘lines in a suit’, ‘fitted shirt’, ‘paper tiger’. if i was not already excited for the new album ‘ga ga ga ga ga’, i am now, the new songs showcased the other night were very good. show of the year so far!

  1. Good write up Glinner and I would have to agree with it. Spoon definitely brough their “A” game to Philly. Great show!! Hopefully they will return soon as they mentioned. — they also played “me and the bean” in their encore. cheers!
